Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently responded forcefully to the allegations of faecal bacteria contamination in the Sangam water, which have caused a stir during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The report, which claims that the sacred waters of the Sangam are contaminated with harmful bacteria, was swiftly dismissed by Yogi Adityanath, who termed it a deliberate smear campaign. According to the Chief Minister, such baseless accusations were aimed at harming the sanctity of the Kumbh Mela, a globally significant spiritual event that attracts millions of devotees every year.

Adityanath stated that the state government had implemented comprehensive water monitoring systems to ensure the safety and purity of the water at the Sangam. The government’s health and environmental departments have repeatedly confirmed that the water quality meets stringent safety standards. The CM’s office also shared that water samples taken from the Sangam have consistently been found to be free of contaminants, with no signs of faecal bacteria or harmful pathogens. In his remarks, the Chief Minister emphasized that these claims were not only false but part of a calculated effort to undermine the event’s global reputation.

The Maha Kumbh Mela is an important event for millions of Hindus, and it holds spiritual and religious significance. Yogi Adityanath expressed his disappointment that such reports, despite lacking scientific evidence, were being sensationalized. He reiterated that the Kumbh Mela has been a safe and spiritually enriching gathering for centuries and would continue to be so.
