Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar recently responded to questions regarding Bengaluru’s ongoing infrastructural struggles, claiming that even with divine assistance, the city’s issues cannot be resolved quickly. As the city continues to expand and modernize, the challenges that accompany rapid urbanization seem to be mounting.
Shivakumar’s comments came after rising concerns about Bengaluru’s notorious traffic jams, the crumbling state of some of its roads, and the overwhelmed civic systems in various parts of the city. With the government under scrutiny for not being able to address these problems rapidly, the Deputy CM assured citizens that efforts are being made, though they will take time.
Drawing attention to the urgency of the problem, he emphasized that the problems affecting the city did not emerge overnight, and therefore a complete transformation would require time, resources, and a strategic approach. The deputy CM expressed that despite the frustration of citizens, there are no quick fixes to decades of infrastructural neglect.
The state government is already taking steps in this direction by introducing new infrastructure projects, improving the road network, and expanding Bengaluru’s metro system. The ultimate goal is to make Bengaluru a more livable and efficient city for its residents and businesses.
In his speech, Shivakumar urged patience from the public, noting that real change requires consistent effort from multiple stakeholders and cannot be expected in the blink of an eye.
