In the wake of a devastating fire that claimed the lives of two children and destroyed over 800 shanties in a Rohini Jhuggi cluster, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has expressed profound grief and announced immediate relief measures for the affected families.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Sunday, left hundreds of residents homeless and in urgent need of assistance. Rescue operations were swiftly launched, with fire services and local authorities working tirelessly to control the blaze and provide medical aid to the injured.

CM Gupta visited the site shortly after the incident to assess the situation firsthand. She met with the affected families, offering her condolences and assuring them of the government’s support. “This is a heartbreaking tragedy. The government is committed to providing all necessary assistance to the affected families,” she stated.

In her visit, CM Gupta announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh each for the families of the deceased. The government has also pledged to rebuild the damaged Jhuggi cluster, providing residents with permanent housing and essential services. “We will ensure that the affected families have a safe and dignified place to live,” she affirmed.

The Chief Minister further directed the Delhi Fire Services to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and to implement enhanced fire safety measures in all informal settlements across the city. “Preventing such incidents in the future is a priority. We will work towards ensuring that all slum areas are equipped with adequate fire safety infrastructure,” CM Gupta emphasized.

The government’s swift response has been lauded by residents and civil society organizations. Many have expressed hope that the tragedy will lead to lasting improvements in the living conditions of Delhi’s slum dwellers.

In a related development, CM Gupta recently met with slum dwellers in Vasant Kunj, where she reiterated the government’s commitment to providing permanent housing solutions. “Where there are Jhuggis, there will be pucca houses,” she declared, emphasizing the administration’s focus on slum development.

The Delhi government’s allocation of ₹696 crore for slum development, announced earlier this year, is part of this broader initiative to improve infrastructure and living conditions in informal settlements.

As the investigation into the Rohini fire continues, CM Gupta has assured the public that the government will take all necessary steps to prevent such tragedies in the future and to support the affected communities in their recovery.
