Delhi’s readiness for emergencies is being put to the test on May 9, 2025, as the city conducts a critical civil defence drill involving air raid sirens and coordinated emergency response systems. The city will activate sirens across its 11 districts at 4:00 PM, signaling the start of a series of simulated events aimed at testing evacuation procedures, emergency medical responses, and the overall resilience of the city’s infrastructure.
Over 600 personnel will be involved, including those from the Delhi Police, Civil Defence, and the Delhi Fire Services. These teams will be tasked with managing large-scale evacuations, assisting people with mobility issues, and ensuring that emergency shelters are operating efficiently. Additionally, the drill will test the communication systems used to inform the public about the emergency and provide updates.
The exercise will provide valuable insights into how well the city’s emergency systems work under pressure and where improvements need to be made. It will also play a crucial role in ensuring that Delhi’s residents understand how to respond to the sirens and take immediate action to protect themselves.
