Box-office clashes aren’t a new thing in showbiz. It has been happening ever since quantity movies started being made in the film industry. Be it Hollywood, Bollywood, or any globally recognized cinema, clashes at the box office are bound to happen. The latest one that has been the talk of the town for a long time now is the epic ‘Barbie’ vs ‘Oppenheimer’ clash. While there was a clear divide before the two English films hit the screens, we also have a clear winner now.
The films, which belong to two completely different genres, are pitted against each other at the box office. While ‘Barbie’ is directed by Greta Gerwig, Christopher Nolan has helmed ‘Oppenheimer’. And while the Cillian Murphy-led biographical drama Oppenheimer is inching closer to the Rs 60 crore mark in India within four days of its release, Margot Robbie’s Barbie has crossed the Rs 20 crore mark as of its fourth day of release. But that’s not the case globally. Barbie has taken over internationally.

According to estimates, Barbie has reported a worldwide total box office collection of $337 million (The movie was made with a budget of $145 million). Outside of North America, the top markets for the film were the United Kingdom with $22.9 million, Mexico with $22.3 million, Brazil with $15.9 million, Australia with $14.6 million, Spain with $9.9 million, France with $9.8 million and China with $8.2 million.
Meanwhile, Nolan’s historical drama made a worldwide debut of $174 million. Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus, the $100 million-budgeted movie earned well beyond the U.S. and Canada, with its highest-grossing territories being the U.K. ($9.3 million), India ($7 million), France ($6.4 million) and Germany ($6.4 million).
Barbie debuted at number one in 58 markets around the world including China whereas Oppenheimer debuted at number on in 17 markets globally including Saudi Arabia and the UAE. While Oppenheimer didn’t release in China, Barbie wasn’t released in some countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
