Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s Bawaal released this week on 21 July and is witnessing mixed responses. While the audience are appreciating the characters played by Varun and Janhvi, the film is also falling into controversies for picking up the reference of the tragic holocaust as the plot. Nolan’s film had a theatrical release on the same day as Bawaal witnessed an OTT release.
Bawaal and Oppenheimer controversy
The film has been making rounds on the internet for Auschwitz controversy, but Varun Dhawan defends this as he indirectly takes a dig at a particular scene from Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The Bhagavad Gita sequence from the film has created a rage among the audience on social media.
An intimate scene from Oppenheimer where two characters appear to be having sex where he reads out verses from Bhagavad Gita has kept the internet into splits. Being irked from this scene, a section of social media users have demanded to erase out this particular sequence from the Nolan-directed film.

Nitesh Tiwari-directed Bawaal has been receiving mixed responses from the netizens, referring to the holocaust plot. In an interview with Pinkvilla, the film’s lead actor Varun Dhawan reacted to it and said, “Some people got trigged or sensitive about this. But I don’t understand where does that sensitivity or trigger go when they watch, suppose an English film, I’m saying for example. They’re allowed to do everything there, they’re allowed to take leaps and they’re allowed to show things in a certain way, but you’ll find that correct.”
Indirectly referring to Nolan’s film Oppenheimer, the actor continued, “I know people have got very triggered after watching a small scene in a brilliant film, recently released. It’s a scene that’s important to our culture and our country. But that’s okay for you. You don’t feel they should be more sensitive to you? So where does your criticism go then?”
