Irrfan’s connection to Sardar Udham
For the unversed, Irrfan was originally supposed to play the role of the eponymous freedom fighter. However, he passed away in 2020 before he could do the film. Shoojit added, “He was supposed to be part of this film from the start, and it was really unfortunate that he was unable to do so. Wherever he is up there, all the awards are dedicated to him”.
Vicky stepped in to play the role after the death of Irrfan Khan and received widespread acclaim. He also took to Instagram to dedicate the honours to Irrfan. He wrote, “Congratulations team!!! Honoured and grateful to be a part of #SardarUdham … To Irrfan Sir!” Sardar Udham eventually released directly on OTT in October 2021 and brought Vicky many accolades.
