On August 24, winners of the 69th National Film Awards were announced and Allu Arjun created history with his win. The actor became the first Telugu actor to receive a National Award as he won it for Pushpa. The honour marked a landmark achievement for the South cinema. And now the actor has reacted to it.
Allu Arjun reacts to his National Award win
Allu gave an impressive performance in the pan-India blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. The act was acknowledged at the National Awards and the actor reacted to his win in an interview with Variety. He said, “Getting the national award is the highest official respect you can get. What we realized was that in 69 years of Telugu cinema, while other technicians and directors have won, no actor had won the best actor at the national awards. So that was a pathbreaking achievement and became the pride of the Telugu people. I was glad that I could contribute to it in a small way.”
The actor on Pushpa success
Pushpa reacted amidst the uncertainty of Covid pandemic, with many theatres running on 50 percent capacity. It also clashed with a Hollywood biggie Spiderman: No Way Home, still it emerged a blockbuster. The film collected great numbers at the box office and became a cultural phenomenon. Pushpa’s mannerisms, the film’s songs and dialogues, all became a rage. And the actor credits all that success to the ‘common man’ connect.
Allu shared, “It’s the common man factor, it’s the characterizations’ attitude that really connected across all languages. We wanted to make very authentic, rustic, rooted storytelling. I think that authenticity and honesty paid off, we were not trying to be somebody else, we were trying to be who we are and still trying to appeal to everybody else. It’s like how they say, going local is going global.” Other than the actor, the film also got the National Award in Best Music Direction for Devi Sri Prasad.
After the humongous success of Pushpa, Allu is now gearing up for Pushpa 2. The sequel is titled Pushpa: The Rule and the excitement for it is at an all time high. The actor’s National Award has just added to it.
